EVERY STUDENT. EVERY SCHOOL. EVERY SUCCESS.

The County Superintendent’s responsibilities are broad — ranging from ensuring fiscal solvency for local school districts to providing direct educational services in special education, Juvenile Court, and Community Schools,  and leading continual improvement efforts in academics and student well-being. Please join the list of local Superintendents, administrators, teachers, classified staff, School District Trustees, elected officials, involved community members, and San Luis County Office of Education employees who support my candidacy.

EVERY STUDENT. EVERY SCHOOL. EVERY SUCCESS.

Having spent 38 years working in positions from substitute to Superintendent, I have the experience, vision, and passion to ensure schools in San Luis Obispo focus on the following priorities:

  • Empower parents and caregivers to act as our students’ first and most important teachers
  • Provide safe environments where all students thrive, especially students with disabilities and other vulnerable youth
  • Prepare our students for jobs that pay a sufficient wage, allowing them to raise the next generation of students within our county
  • Pursue continual improvement in academics, behavior, and social-emotional well-being

I hope to earn your support.

WHY I’M RUNNING

School districts are experiencing enormous shifts in practices, including federal policy changes, advances in technology, like Artificial Intelligence, and ensuring students can secure high-wage jobs in fields we can’t envision today. Additionally, districts are experiencing teacher and staff shortages, mental-health needs, and an urgency to deliver effective instruction in literacy, mathematics, and science. My passion, commitment, values, and experience make me uniquely qualified to serve as the top TK-12 educational leader in San Luis Obispo County.

An Educator at Heart

  • Students and families need champions who understand what partnerships, programs, and services are required to thrive

  • I love teaching and coaching; it’s where I find purpose.

  • I want to leave a legacy of equipping the next generation.

  • And yes- selfishly- we need our students to become successful leaders to support us when we retire and to ensure that our tomorrows are better than our todays

A Leader Committed to Growth

  • I left the classroom to have an impact far beyond 20-30 students per year

  • As a lifelong learner, I bring a mindset and track record of continuous improvement.

  • I believe systems improve when leaders model curiosity, humility, empathy, and accountability.

A Candidate Prepared for the Role

I’ve learned from two exceptional County Superintendents whose leadership shaped my own:

Dr. James Brescia — A fiscally responsible leader who sees education as the foundation of our workforce, champions enriched learning experiences, and brings decades of systemwide expertise.

Dr. Julian Crocker — A humble, visionary servant leader with a deep commitment to early learning and student success.

    VOTE FOR ME BECAUSE…

The SLO County Office of Education already supports families and schools in key areas — mental health, reducing chronic absenteeism, and creating diverse pathways toward college and career. I am committed to strengthening and expanding this work with transparency, collaboration, and innovation.

    My Commitment to Improvement

The role of County Superintendent is broad and deeply impactful. I will:

    • Ensure fiscal solvency across all districts

    • Support and advance educator training and development

    • Provide direct services in special education, Juvenile Court and Community Schools, and early learning

    • Respond to fast-changing policy and funding landscapes

    • Guide schools through new challenges like advances in Artificial Intelligence and shifting workforce needs

    A Vision for the Future

Education is evolving faster than ever. Our county needs leadership that:

    • Listens to educators, students, caregivers, and community partners

    • Makes responsible financial decisions

    • Prioritizes innovation without losing sight of what matters most — people

    • Builds strong pathways from early learning through adulthood

    • Ensures every student has the opportunity to thrive now and long after graduation
